Dr. Thanh Nguyen earned his Bachelor’s degree in Economics from National Economic University in Hanoi, Vietnam, his MBA in finance from Old Dominion University, Norfolk, Virginia and Ph.D. in Finance from University of South Florida, Tampa, Florida. He taught finance at University of South Florida as a part-time instructor and worked as a visiting Assistant professor of finance for one year at University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
In his leisure time, he likes to play tennis, badminton, soccer and jogging. He has visited China in the past and the next destination may be Mexico. He lives in Spartanburg with his lovely wife, a five-year old daughter and a two-year old son.
Dr. Nguyen’s research interests focus on corporate finance topics such as Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A), dividend and stock repurchase policies, family firms, and earning managements. He has presented his research papers in many prestigious financial research conferences including Financial Management Association (FMA), Southern financial Association (SFA), Eastern financial association (EFA), Southeastern financial Association (SWFA). He was a section chair for SWFA in 2012. He received USF Graduate Fellowship Fund, Student Government Fund, and Gaiennie Fund from University of South Florida for his research. Dr. Nguyen has two publications in Managerial Finance (2015) and Journal of Accounting and Finance (2014).
He is also interested in doing research in teaching methodologies. He and his coauthor will present two research proposals at the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Conference in Savanah George this year, organized by George Southern University.
Dr. Thanh has passed CFA level 2 and he plans to take the last exam next year. He worked for Coca-Cola and a private bank in Vietnam for 3 years before receiving a scholarship for his MBA from the government of Vietnam.
