Limestone's Herny Hiott Named "Social Work Educator Of The Year"

Limestone College Associate Professor and Bachelor of Social Work Program Director Henry Hiott has been recognized as the 2020 National Association of Social Workers-South Carolina (NASW-SC) “Social Work Educator of the Year.”

This marks the second straight year that a Limestone faculty member has been honored with this title. In 2019, Jackie Puckett earned the honor.

The award is scheduled to be presented at the NASW-SC Symposium that has been postponed until June 1-3 in Columbia.

The Social Work Educator of the Year award criteria includes being a National Association of Social Workers member who reflects ethics of the social work field; full-time faculty member of a college, department, school, or program of social work; personal and professional integration of experience and education; serves as a role model for students pursuing degrees in social work; advocates on behalf of social workers and clients served; contributor to the knowledge of social work and the public in his or her own areas of expertise; and a person who enhances the relationship between social work practice, research and education.

The honor recognizes the best Social Work educator throughout South Carolina.

Hiott was recently appointed by South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster to serve on the Coastal Empire Mental Health Board of Directors. Coastal Empire Mental Health serves the citizens of Allendale, Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton, and Jasper Counties.

Prior to serving on the board, Professor Hiott worked for many years in the addictions field with the Lexington/Richland Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council. In 2019, he was appointed as Director of the Bachelor of Social Work program at Limestone.
