Limestone to Host Dec. 1st Chili Contest to Help Future Teachers

Chili CookoffThe weather may be cooling off but the Limestone College Teacher Cadet program will bring a little heat to the area with its First Annual Chili Cook-Off on Saturday, December 1.

 The fun—and tastings—are scheduled for 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. in the Timken East Building (at the corner of East O'Neal and Griffith Streets in the former location of the YMCA). All proceeds generated by the event will be earmarked for the March 2013 Teacher Cadet Conference to be held on the Limestone campus.

During the event, five different chili tastings can be enjoyed for $5 and will be include drinks and desserts. The deadline to register for team and individual cooks to enter the contest is Monday, November 26, and costs $20. • Best Chili in Town (Category for Restaurants Only)
• Best Limestone Chili (Awarded to the Limestone organization, club, or department with the best chili)

"Limestone partners with Teacher Cadets in area schools by providing opportunities to students to become a part of the college experience," explained Dr. Saurino. "The primary goal of the program is to encourage academically able students who possess exemplary interpersonal and leadership skills to consider teaching as a career. An important secondary goal of the program is to provide these talented future community leaders with insights about teachers and schools so that they will be civic advocates of education."
