LIMESTONE PROFESSOR RECEIVES "EXCELLENCE IN TEACHING" AWARD

Gena Poovey  - Limestone CollegeThe South Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities (SCICU) consortium recently recognized 20 college professors across the state for fostering serious inquiry, critical thinking, and a broader understanding of the world in which we live.

The 2014 Excellence in Teaching awards are presented annually to one nominee from each of the state’s private colleges.  Honorees received a $3,000 professional development stipend during an awards dinner held in Columbia earlier this week.

One of those honored was Limestone College’s Dr. Gena Poovey, Professor of Choral/Vocal Music Education and Director of Choral Activities.

LIMESTONE PROFESSOR SELECTED FOR PRESTIGIOUS "FULBRIGHT AWARD"

Dr. Cavallini - Fulbright Scholar 40Dr. Felicia Cavallini, a Professor of Physical Education at Limestone College, has been selected for a Fulbright Scholar Grant, which will provide her a research and teaching position for a semester in Canada.

Dr. Cavallini was informed of her selection by the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board on March 25. As a Fulbright grantee, Dr. Cavallini will join the ranks of distinguished participants in the program. Fulbright alumni have become heads of state, judges, ambassadors, cabinet ministers, CEOs, university presidents, journalists, artists, and more. A total of 43 Fulbright Award winners have won Nobel Prizes. The Fulbright Program was established in 1946 under legislation introduced by then-Senator J. William Fulbright of Arkansas. The Fulbright Program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.

MUSIC DEPARTMENT HOLDS "YOUNG ARTIST COMPETITION" AT LIMESTONE

MUSIC 40Limestone College's annual Young Artist Competition for vocalists and instrumentalists was held earlier today (Friday, April 4). Cash awards were given to the first, second, and third place finishers. Also, participation in the competition served as an audition into the music department.
