Online. And on your schedule.
Throughout its history, Limestone College has provided individuals who didn’t have the opportunity to pursue a higher educational goal with the chance to do just that. The Internet program is the newest Limestone College offering to reach out to those who aren’t able to attend traditional or non-traditional college programs in their area. The courses offered in the Internet program have the same content as those taught in traditional courses. The only change is in the delivery of that content. Through the use of computers and Internet technology, we’re able to give students a viable option to earn a degree around their busy schedule and life. And since its inception in 1996, our internet program has been a huge success. Limestone College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award baccalaureate and associate degrees. If you have any questions about the accreditation of Limestone College, you may contact the Commission on Colleges at 1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia 30033-4097, or call 404-679-4500
How It Works
The courses in the internet program have the same content as the traditional courses.
The major difference in the delivery of an internet course and a classroom course is the separation of the student and the professor. All lectures and assignments are delivered to the student via the Internet. The student completes the assignments - both reading and written - at a computer with an Internet connection, using textbook and the Internet as references. The methodologies vary with the professor. Some professors have very detailed lectures on the Internet. Some use detailed Internet links. Some use course work designed by textbook publishers. Some use exercises, practices, or tutorials. And some only have reading assignments. The student completes written assignments and sends them to the professor via a Course Management System (CMS). The professor then responds to the student via CMS. There are no specific times that the student must be online, but normally the professor will have specific "office hours" available for discussion with students. The student will be required to take online exams with proctors that are approved by the College. Once all required assignments are completed, the professor assigns the student a grade and mails the results to the College. The student views their grade online in Limestone College's Campus website.
How To Get Started
A prospective student wanting to take an Internet course must apply to Limestone College first. The application process can be reviewed at the "Admission Procedure" page on the Limestone College web site. Application and transcript request forms and will be emailed to the Extended Campus Admission's Office. When ready to begin, the student will review the schedule of courses and then complete a payment form online or contact the Extended Campus office (800-795-7151 ext. 7) to register. Once a student has properly registered and paid for the course(s), the textbook(s) is mailed to the student from Limestone College's home campus. The courses can be accessed from the Extended Campus web site via Blackboard. Once the course is accessed, the student will follow the course syllabus, schedule, and instructions given by the professor.
