Art Department Philosophy and Goals

The Art Department at Limestone College seeks to develop the creative potential of its majors and to equip students for future careers in art.   Specifically, the Department's objectives are to provide students with a sound foundation for work-related experiences in art, to prepare students for advanced degrees in their particular fields, to develop students' visual perception and sensitivity with an understanding of the aesthetic process, and to afford students a traditional and comprehensive background in the liberal arts. Small classes and close student-faculty interaction are the foundation for developing those objectives.

Facilities

Limestone College provides special facilities for painting, drawing, printmaking, ceramics, photography, woodworking, weaving and fiber arts, and lecture courses.

The Department's computer lab and its software programs are available to all art majors.   Specifically, the Graphic Design program provides a solid foundation in idea development and program knowledge necessary for success in the workplace.   Facilities are constantly being updated and include both state-of-the-art Macintosh and PC's, digital cameras, large bed scanners, and color printers.   Primary software includes Adobe Photoshop, In Design, PageMaker, Illustrator, and Quark.

Career Opportunities

Limestone's Studio Art program is designed to provide a solid foundation for vocations in art related fields.   The curriculum encourages research, creativity, conceptual thinking, and craftsmanship as practical on the job training.   Internships are available.   Graduates have successful careers as interior designers, craftsmen, artists, art supply and gallery owners, graphic designers, window dressers, world travelers, consultants, and grant writers. Each of Limestone's degrees prepares students for graduate studies.
