Eric Henson

Bass trombonist Eric Henson became interested in music after his parents took him to see the Bands of the Grenadier Guards and the Gordon Highlanders at age four.  Eric began his formal studies at the age of nine at Flat Rock Middle School in his hometown of Hendersonville NC.  Eric, being an avid sports fan, tried to balance baseball, football, and trombone until his Freshman year of high school - a year in which the football team won only one game!  From that point on, life was all about music!

Eric completed his B.S. ed degree at Western Carolina University in the Spring of 2006 under the tutelage of Dr. Ken Kresche, and Dr. Dan Cherry.  During his time at WCU, Eric pursued educational opportunities in the student staff program of the widely acclaimed "Pride of the Mountains Marching Band."  Between the fall of 2002 and 2005, Eric assisted in the preparation of  the band for their appearances at the Bands of America regional in Atlanta, GA and Bands of America Grand Nationals in Indianapolis, IN.  As an alumni of WCU, Eric has been blessed with many rewarding opportunities, including positions at East Rutherford High School in Forest City, NC, and Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps from Ft. Mill, SC.

In the spring of 2009, Eric completed his Master's degree in Trombone performance at the University of Maryland.  Maryland provided many opportunities for high caliber instruction, he was plunged into the world of orchestral bass trombone performance with the National Symphony Orchestra's bass trombonist Matthew Guilford.  Weekly brass quintet rehearsals where coached by Chris Gekker and Chris Dudly.  Wind Orchestra rehearsals where conducted by Dr. Michael Votta, and Col. Tim Foley.  Coming from such a diverse background, Eric's experiences with such great musicians provided a time of great musical growth.

As a performer, Eric has performed with orchestras from Maryland to Georgia.  While living in the Washington D.C. area, Eric held positions with the Piedmont Symphony in Warrenton, VA and the Capitol Wind Symphony in McLean, VA.  Currently Eric serves as the bass trombonist for Symphony Orchestra Augusta, and The King's Brass.
