guitarA recital at Limestone College on Sept. 17 provided a once-in-a-lifetime experience for a group of young talented guitarists.

Recently returned from a seven-city European concert tour, guitarist David Burgess performed some of Brazil’s finest solo guitar music during his concert at the Carroll Fine Arts Building Recital Hall.

With the blessing of Burgess, Limestone music professor Dr. Harry “Chip” Hill recently contacted Michael Miller, a Lawson Academy of the Arts guitar instructor from Converse College, and encouraged him to bring his youth ensemble of guitarists known as “Bella Chorda” to Limestone for an afternoon master class work session with Burgess.

The master class with the teenage classical guitar ensemble also took place in the Carroll Fine Arts Building Recital Hall. The pre-college group, consisting of guitarists 12 years and older, remained on campus to attend the concert by Burgess.

“It was so exciting to have these youngsters on campus to meet and work with such a professional, and it's very impressive that Mr. Burgess added this service,” said Dr. Gena Poovey, Chairperson of the Limestone College music department.
