Limestone Updates Provided During Recent President's Advisory Council Event

The Limestone College President’s Advisory Council met on Saturday, March 16, as President Dr. Darrell Parker provided the group with an update on the “Drive To University” initiative currently taking place.

The President’s Advisory Council is designed to utilize the talents of key alumni and friends to benefit the College and its students. The Council represents a broad cross-section of graduation years, academic majors, extracurricular activities, occupations, and locations where Limestone classes were completed.

The Council provides recommendations in diverse areas, including strategic planning, marketing, recruitment, development, and both academic and extracurricular program innovation to assist Limestone in the challenges of the coming decades.

The “Drive To University” is underway as Limestone takes steps to move to the status of a university by the fall of 2020, which coincides with the liberal arts institution’s 175th anniversary.

In addition to Parker’s updates at the recent meeting, several Limestone faculty members who were on hand hosted breakout sessions to present the advancements in their areas as well as their respective future needs and visions. The Council members attended the sessions based on their personal interest. The participating faculty members included Dr. Gena Poovey, Dr. Michael Scharff, Dr. Jonathan Sarnoff, Dr. Felicia Cavallini, Dr. Tim Baxter-Ferguson, Dr. Amber Williams, Dr. Jane Watkins, Megan Anderson, Carolyn Ford, and Vandy Scoates.

Scharff concluded the event with a presentation on the new Global Experience that will offer travel opportunities for Limestone students beginning in the spring of 2020. Anderson also joined Parker to discuss the College's Quality Enhancement Plan.

Kathy Parker, the College’s First Lady, hosted a breakfast reception for all guests who attended the President’s Advisory Council meeting.
