The Limestone University and Community Chorus will present its “Harvest Time” Fall Concert on Sunday, Nov. 20, at 3 p.m. inside Limestone Presbyterian Church in Gaffney.

Admission is free and the public is invited to attend.

The chorus will be conducted by Dr. Gena E. Poovey, Professor of Choral/Vocal Music Education and Chair of the Department of Visual & Performing Arts at Limestone. Dr. David B. Thompson, Professor of Music, will join Poovey as the piano accompanist.

The concert’s theme is inspired by Cherokee County’s many orchards and looks to put a fresh spin on the season of gratitude and thanksgiving.

The program includes some selections such as “Now Thank We All Our God,” “Over the River and Through the Woods,” and “America, the Beautiful,” as well as some more unique pieces such as “Shine On, Harvest Moon” and Woody Guthrie’s “Pastures of Plenty.”

In celebration of other autumn occasions and events, there is a song about going to the county fair, “Oh Dear, What Can the Matter Be?” as well as a song by Aaron Copland that gives a nod to election season in “The Dodger.” The concert will also honor the Jewish tradition of thanksgiving, called Sukkot, by performing a chorus (“Cast Thy Burden”) from Mendelssohn’s “Elijah” and a modern piece titled “Winds of Peace.”

“The chorus is grateful to the congregation of Limestone Presbyterian Church for hosting the concert in their sanctuary, which provides a beautiful setting for an afternoon program of choral music,” Poovey said. “We invite everyone to come out and enjoy the concert.”

Limestone Presbyterian Church is located at 109 South Limestone Street.

The Limestone University & Community Chorus is the major vocal performance ensemble for university singers pursuing a degree in music or music education. For over 30 years, members of the community who enjoy choral singing have rehearsed the same music that the students have learned and have joined in the performances.

This year's community members represent Episcopal Church of the Incarnation, First Baptist Church of Gaffney, Grace Baptist Church, Limestone Presbyterian Church, and Thomas Jefferson Academy.
