Professor Hiott was born, raised, and continues to live in the SC Lowcountry. He is very actively involved with his community through participation with many civic organizations (Friends of the Colleton Library, the Colleton Museum, the Colleton Arts Council, the Colleton Center, the Colleton Historical/Preservation Society). He is married with two children. He enjoys spending time hiking, biking, and canoeing through the scenic landscapes of the Lowcountry. He also enjoys cast net shrimping, crabbing, fishing, and harvesting oysters. He feels that it is important to protect and preserve what little of the Gullah / Geechee culture still exists today.
