Blake Lawson enjoys a life of active freelancing throughout the Southeast where he currently holds positions as the Principal Trombone with the Aiken Symphony Orchestra and as the Adjunct Professor of Low Brass at Limestone University and Newberry College. Comfortable with all genres of music, Mr. Lawson performs regularly with jazz ensembles and wedding bands. He has also performed as a substitute with the SC Philharmonic and the Asheville, Augusta, Beaufort, Brevard, Greenville, and Long Bay Symphony Orchestras. In addition, he has performed with the Electric City Big Band, Patrick Davis, Capitol City Big Band, Station Seven, and as the lead trombone in the Left Bank Big Band while a student at the University of South Carolina.

In the past few years, Blake has been offered positions within the US Navy Fleet Band System and the King’s Brass. He has professionally recorded with the Salvation Army for their AIES music series, the Station Seven Band, and the UofSC Wind Ensemble. During the summer of 2021, Mr. Lawson was a head brass instructor for the Kimball-Meeks Summer Conservatory and he continues to frequently serve as a guest clinician with many South Carolina middle and high schools while maintaining a successful private studio. Blake has performed at the American Trombone Workshop, Georgia Trombone Summit, and the Southeastern Trombone Symposium with various student ensembles and masterclasses.

Mr. Lawson completed his Bachelors degree in Trombone Performance from the University of South Carolina and his MM in Trombone Performance from the University of Georgia. While at Georgia he held a performance-based Graduate Assistantship with the Bulldog Brass Society Brass Quintet under the direction of Phil Smith. Mr. Lawson has studied with Dr. Josh Bynum, Dr. Michael Wilkinson, Steve Wilson, and Dr. Brad Edwards.
In his free time, Blake enjoys spending time with his wife Lizzy, cooking and baking, watching movies, and studying scripture.
