Limestone Honors Outstanding Alumni For 2018
Four Limestone College alumni were honored during a banquet at Stephenson Dining Hall on Friday, September 28. The banquet, part of Limestone’s Homecoming Weekend celebration, was held to recognize the achievements of the College’s outstanding alumni.
Those being recognized included Frances (Fran) Jewell Bagwell, Crosland (Crossie) McDowell Cox, Jessica (Jessie) Mae Aguglia, and Bessie Horn Mayfield.
The Alumna of the Year Award recipient, Bagwell graduated from Limestone College in 1985 with a degree in Business Management. She is retired from the South Carolina Employment Security Commission. Bagwell remains very involved with Limestone College and the community of Spartanburg. Nominees for this award were evaluated based on their achievement and great prominence in his or her career field. Selection was based on the person as a whole and their extraordinary service and support of Limestone College The Golden Alumni Achievement Award recipient, Cox is from the Class of 1968 with a degree in Business Management. She is a member of the Limestone College Board of Trustees, and is active in her community of Clemson. Nominees for the Golden Alumni Achievement Award were evaluated for their demonstrated leadership, professional attainment, community involvement, Limestone College involvement, and leadership since their graduation.
The Rock Solid Alumna of the Year Award recipient, Aguglia is a member of the Class of 2013 with a degree in History. She was a member of the Saints lacrosse team and now serves as the head coach of the women’s lacrosse team at Gardner-Webb University. Nominees for the Rock Solid Alumni Award were evaluated on their outstanding promise in his or her field of endeavor, demonstrated leadership, and service to Limestone College and/or their community. The award, new in 2018, will be given annually to no more than five alumni who have graduated within the last 10 years and are 35 years of age or younger.
Mayfield, who is receiving the Alumna Service Award, is a member of the Class of 1964 with a degree in Elementary Education. She retired after 30 years with the Cherokee County School District. Mayfield is dedicated to her community and has been involved with numerous organizations and causes over the years. Nominees for the Alumni Service Award were evaluated on their volunteer service and contributions to the public on either a local, national, or international level and/or to Limestone College.
The Limestone Alumni Office received nominations in each category, and a committee made up of the College’s Alumni selected the award winners. The awards recognize graduates who have distinguished themselves in their professional fields and are exemplary ambassadors for Limestone. Recipients reflect the high-standing character of their alma mater.
