Addington To Perform Organ Recital On Oct. 13

Limestone College will host an organ recital by Justin L. Addington on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at Fullerton Auditorium. The 7:30 p.m. event is free and open to the public.

Addington, a Limestone alumnus, has served as Director of Music and Worship for Skidaway Island United Methodist Church in Savannah, Ga, since June of 2010. He was previously the organist and choir master at Buford Street United Methodist Church in Gaffney.

During the afternoon of Oct. 13, Addington will also conduct a seminar for Limestone College music students.

At Skidaway Island United Methodist Church, Addington conducts the Chancel Choir, Chamber Choir, Cokesbury Choir, two adult handbell groups, and one of three Children’s Choirs. In addition to these duties, he serves as organist, manages the church’s active concert series, and coordinates all aspects of worship.

During his time there, Addington has overseen the design and installation of a new 89-rank pipe organ, led the Chancel Choir on concert tours to Italy and New York City, and worked to establish the church’s reputation for excellence in the areas of music and worship.

Prior his move to Savannah, Addington lived in Spartanburg where he taught music in the public schools, and participated in community and professional theatre.

He received a bachelor’s degree in Music Education and graduated with honors from Limestone in 2007, and in 2012 he was honored as the College’s Young Alumnus of the Year. In 2014, he completed a master of Church Music degree with an emphasis in choral conducting from Concordia University in Wisconsin.

As a Limestone student, Addington placed first in the musical theatre component of the National Association of Teachers Singing competition, was named to the "Who's Who Among America's College Students" listing, and was a recipient of numerous music and theatre awards and scholarships. He also lent his talents to the Little Theatre by portraying many characters on stage and also working as Music Director and Pianist.

Addington is a member of the Fellowship of United Methodist Musicians, The Hymn Society, The American Guild of Handbell Ringers, and is immediate past Dean of the Savannah Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.
