The first steps toward major facility improvements at Limestone College were taken during a recent meeting of the Board of Trustees.

The Board voted unanimously last week to pursue a relationship with the U.S. Department of Agriculture that would enable the institution to accelerate a building plan that will have a major impact on academics and student life at the College.

Limestone College President Dr. Walt Griffin received the Order of the Palmetto from the South Carolina Governor’s Office during a reception and dinner in his honor on Thursday, Oct. 26.

The Order of the Palmetto is considered the highest civilian honor in the State of South Carolina. It was first awarded in 1971 by Governor John C. West. It recognizes a person's lifetime achievements and contributions to the State of South Carolina.

OCTOBER 23, 2017

The Limestone College Presidential Search Committee has been very busy during the past month. I am communicating as the Search Committee Chair to report on our progress to the Limestone community.

Recruitment of candidates began in late August with advertising and outreach to higher education leaders around the country. The Committee started reviewing applications in mid-September, and by our application deadline of October 15, we had amassed a robust pool of candidates.

For the third straight year, Limestone College Professor of Physical Education Dr. Felicia Cavallini will soon serve on the Fulbright U.S. Regional Peer Review Committee for Canada.

Three committee members will represent the entire United States in 2018-2019. The group will peer review the Fulbright applications from the United States before sending them to Canada. This will mark the final year of Cavallini’s three-year term on the respected committee.

On Monday, October 16, Limestone College President Dr. Walt Griffin was honored with a proclamation by Cherokee County Council. After 25 years of service to Limestone, Dr. Griffin will be retiring in December of this year. Dr. Griffin was also honored with a proclamation recently by the Cherokee County School Board. Limestone College Professor of English Erin Pushman recently had two of her essays selected for re-publication.

Pushman’s Feed The Baby was originally published in Breastfeeding Today, and was re-published over the summer in the edited blog Women’s Health Today from Praeclarus Press. In addition, an excerpt of her essay, Intercourse, Recall, was selected for the forthcoming anthology WAVES, a Confluence of Women’s Voice. The anthology from the A Room of Her Own Foundation is inspired by Virginia Woolf.

Prior to the Friday, Oct. 6, performance of “Evil Dead: The Musical,” Limestone College Associate Professor of History Dr. Patricia Hoskins will present a pre-show lecture as part of Limestone’s “Reformation Reflections” series.

Hoskins’ talk is entitled “Of Monsters and Men: A Short History of Fear.” It will take place in the Rilling Hall of Fame Room, located inside the Bob Campbell Field House, starting at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free and the public is invited to attend.

A production of “Evil Dead: The Musical” will have a three-night run at Limestone College Theatre on October 5-7. Show-time each day is at 8 p.m.

Adult tickets are $12 each, while those 65-over and non-Limestone students (with ID) are $10 each. Limestone students, faculty and staff are admitted free. Tickets will be available at the door starting one hour before each performance.
