Shannon Hamrick Park Dedication Ceremony To Be Held April 19

The second of three dedication ceremonies this spring at Limestone College will take place on Friday, April 19, with the grand opening celebration for Shannon Hamrick Park.

As previously announced, the College will dedicate the new Cunning Victory Bell Tower on Sunday, April 14. Plans will soon be unveiled regarding the upcoming dedication ceremony for the Bob Prevatte Athletic Complex.

Shannon Hamrick Park, made possible by a gift from Barry and Judy Hamrick in memory of their late son, will be dedicated on April 19 starting at 5 p.m. Located off Hetty Hill Street, the project surrounds the Founders FCU Stadium entrance and has transformed the baseball complex into an attractive park setting. Following the dedication ceremony, the Saints baseball team will host King University at 6 p.m.

“This wonderful new addition at Limestone not only enhances our beautiful campus, but also memorializes the legacy of Shannon Hamrick and his love of baseball and his home community,” said the College’s President Dr. Darrell Parker. “Our hope is that those who visit this park and learn more about Shannon will be inspired to do great things in their own lives and for others.”

Shannon Hamrick, who died in 2008 at the age of 36, was a beloved member of the Gaffney community who was invested in local sports and outdoor activities. His passion for baseball was evident as he coached Little League in Gaffney and was an avid supporter of the Saints’ program.

“We are blessed to have the Hamrick family as a part of our Limestone family,” Parker noted. “Shannon Hamrick Park is transforming our baseball complex and our campus. It is also enhancing the Limestone experience for all of our students, as well as our faculty, staff, and alumni. At the same time, this new park further enriches the quality of life for the residents of Gaffney and Cherokee County.”

A new walkway from the Cunning Victory Bell Tower now leads into Shannon Hamrick Park where students and visitors can enjoy an attractive flower garden, fountain, and other amenities. As a part of the project, the areas along the back and sides of the baseball grandstands have new brick façades and signage. A raised patio area along the third base side of the field offers a new seating area for baseball spectators. In addition, new restroom facilities have been constructed.

The public is invited to the dedication ceremony on April 19 and admission into the baseball game that evening is free. For those who cannot attend, the ceremony will be aired live on WZZQ at 104.3 FM and at www.wzzqradio.com.
