Limestone is postponing its regularly scheduled commencement ceremonies in May, but the College is developing plans to still provide meaningful graduation experiences for its seniors.

Dr. Darrell Parker, Limestone’s President, announced on Monday, March 30, that his institution had to make the difficult decision similar to the one taken by numerous colleges and universities across the country as a result of the coronavirus health emergency.

Limestone College was recently represented by its Social Work program at the National Association of Social Workers-South Carolina Chapter (NASW-SC) "Legislative Day" at the State House in Columbia.

The College was one of two institutions that hosted a panel for the event held on February 26.

Limestone College Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) candidate Jaquisha Eaves has been recognized by the National Association of Social Workers-South Carolina (NASW-SC) as its “BSW Student of the Year.”

Eaves is a student in Limestone’s Online & Evening Program at the evening instruction campus in Columbia. She serves as the NASW-SC BSW Student Representative for the state of South Carolina.

Ford Quilting Artwork

Limestone College Professor and Chair of Art Carolyn Ford recently had her artwork selected to be a part of the Asheville Art Museum’s permanent collection.

Pieces from Ford’s “Southernisms” and “Southern Skills” collection were chosen to be a part of the museum’s inaugural exhibit “Appalachia Now! An Interdisciplinary Survey of Contemporary Art in Southern Appalachia” in November 2019. Ford was one of 50 artists to be represented in the exhibit. One of Ford’s pieces, highlighting the art of quilting, accompanies this article.

Hiott Educator of the Year

Limestone College Associate Professor and Bachelor of Social Work Program Director Henry Hiott has been recognized as the 2020 National Association of Social Workers-South Carolina (NASW-SC) “Social Work Educator of the Year.”

This marks the second straight year that a Limestone faculty member has been honored with this title. In 2019, Jackie Puckett earned the honor.

The award is scheduled to be presented at the NASW-SC Symposium that has been postponed until June 1-3 in Columbia.

After a record number of nominations, the Girl Scouts of South Carolina-Mountains to Midlands selected Limestone College’s Social Work Preceptor Dr. Aubrey L. Sejuit as one of its six “Women of Distinction” for 2020.

Limestone students who are a part of the traditional Day Campus program can catch up on credits, lighten their course loads, or get ahead of their studies by taking part in the College’s online summer sessions that start this May at a discounted price.

The virtual courses are available in a variety of disciplines and are offered during two separate sessions. The first summer session runs May 4-June 26, and the second will operate June 29-August 14.

To support students and families impacted by the closures of SAT and ACT testing sites due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Limestone College has announced that it will make the test scores optional for admission consideration for Fall 2020.

The College, which will change its name to Limestone University this summer, decided to make the change for first-year students after SAT and ACT testing has been suspended due to the concern of the spread of the coronavirus.

Current Limestone College Day Campus students, beginning today (March 23), can reserve their spots for the upcoming summer sessions and the 2020-2021 academic year.

Those Limestone students are encouraged to log-in to their LC Portal to study available classes and build their schedules. Students are urged to sign-up as early as possible because classes will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis.
