Clear your calendar because it’s going to be a busy spring at Limestone College.

Three separate public ceremonies will be held at Limestone in the coming weeks to dedicate new additions to the historic campus. The College community will first celebrate the official opening of the Cunning Victory Bell Tower on Sunday, April 14.

Details will soon be announced regarding the later dedications being scheduled for Shannon Hamrick Park and the Bob Prevatte Athletic Complex. Construction of the Hamrick and Cunning projects is complete, and work continues at the Prevatte complex.

The Limestone College President’s Advisory Council met on Saturday, March 16, as President Dr. Darrell Parker provided the group with an update on the “Drive To University” initiative currently taking place.

The President’s Advisory Council is designed to utilize the talents of key alumni and friends to benefit the College and its students. The Council represents a broad cross-section of graduation years, academic majors, extracurricular activities, occupations, and locations where Limestone classes were completed.

Limestone College’s indoor drumline, known as Saints Percussion, competed at the Winter Guard International Spartanburg Regional at Dorman High School on March 2 and performed its show “Behind Blue Eyes.”

The show featured music by The Who and was the first public performance of the program in its entirety. Saints Percussion finished in third place with a score of 72.65, an 11-point increase of a prior score from the ensemble’s charter season in 2014.

The Limestone College Athletic Bands will now be providing opportunities for students from Spartanburg Community College to join the Marching Saints.

The new partnership will give Spartanburg Community College students a chance to take the field with the band at Limestone football games, local marching competitions, and more.

There are some Saints in the Cherokee County community who add to the overall quality of life by simply lending a hand to those in need.

And these are real Saints – Limestone College Saints.

Two of the Limestone athletic teams were major players recently as the Cherokee County Humane Society replenished its meager coffers with a profitable fundraiser that will now allow its volunteer members to continue to address the many stray animal needs in the county.

In conjunction with Women’s History Month, Limestone College will host its inaugural Women’s Speaker Forum on Thursday, March 28, at the Stephenson Dining Hall Banquet Room.

The topic of the forum, which is scheduled from 2:30 p.m. until 4 p.m., will be the “Challenges of Women In Business.” The event is geared toward women in professional career roles. Admission is free. A pre-forum networking opportunity, including light refreshments, will take place at 2 p.m.

Michelin Americas ergonomics director Dr. Bobbie Watts is in the business of studying people in their work environment and human factors which impact performance.

It’s an unlikely career path for Watts, who discovered ergonomics by accident when the Gaffney native switched from a Civil to Industrial Engineering major at Clemson University. She has spent more than 20 years working as a corporate human factors engineer for UPS, consultant for American Express, and the Corporate Ergonomics Manager for Coca-Cola Refreshments.

Reggie Browning

Following a national search comprised of dozens of candidates, Limestone College has named Reggie Browning as its new Vice President for Finance and Administration.

The Spartanburg native will assume his new duties on April 1. Browning will report to President Dr. Darrell Parker and serve as a key member of the President’s Cabinet as the College’s chief financial officer. He will manage Limestone’s business operations and oversee several departments.

Limestone College’s Department of Physical Education will begin offering a concentration in Exercise Science during its 2019 fall semester.

Exercise Science is a fast-growing field that scientifically addresses issues of fitness and human performance. The new concentration will prepare students to work in professions involving fitness, wellness, exercise physiology and kinesiology/biomechanics.
