Learning @ Limestone
There are many reasons to choose Limestone - small classes, historic campus, diverse array of athletic and extracurricular activities, and more. However, in the end, the academic environment and resources we provide to our students matters the most.
Andrew Jackson Eastwood Library
Dedicated in 1966 and named after a beloved former college president, the A.J. Eastwood Library houses a vast collection of print volumes as well as a large electronic resources collection. Students have access to laptops, iPad minis, e-books, films and other electronic resources. Additionally, the library provides access to 167 online research databases containing over 34,050 full-text magazine and journal titles.
Serving approximately 56,000 visitors a year, the library prides itself in being the heart and soul of the Limestone campus. It is pleased to host various social and intellectual events to the Limestone community as well as to the public throughout the year, including Get To Know Your Library Day held every September, National Library Week celebrations in April that involve both faculty and student participants, and the iPad Hub professional development workshop for teachers at all levels. This is in addition to the refreshments (coffee and hot chocolate or lemonade) served to students during exam week and an active library display case highlighting a variety of significant and thought-provoking issues.
Library services offered include the following:
PASCAL Delivers, a rapid book-delivery service provided by the Partnership Among South Carolina Academic Libraries which enables students, faculty and staff across the state to request and receive books from academic libraries in South Carolina. Over 9 million items are available in the catalog and books usually arrive within a few days (2-3 business days).
Research instruction for individual students or for a class is given in a variety of formats. For the Online Program, we offer online instruction through webinars. The library’s Ask A Librarian service offers research help and instruction via phone, text and email. Additional research instruction is available via online tutorials, videos and library guides. Limestone offers several services to assist students with specific academic issues. Our peer tutors in the Writing Center and Math Lab provide student-to-student support to help students achieve their academic goals.
Office for Accessibility and PALS
The mission of the Office for Accessibility is to offer opportunities for personal and academic growth to individuals who may find access to higher education difficult by ensuring that students with appropriately documented disabilities receive equal access and appropriate accommodations in all Limestone College programs and academic pursuits per Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act (1973) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (1990), including Amendments (2008).
The Limestone College Program for Alternative Learning Styles (PALS) was developed to serve bright college students who happen to have disabilities which may adversely impact education performance. Only students with documented disabilities and/or ADHD are eligible to receive program services. Students must be registered with the office for Accessibility, or PALS, before accommodations may be recommended/provided. More information
Based on a series of courses drawn from all academic disciplines, Limestone College Honors Program participants are encouraged to attain the highest levels of academic achievement, to develop leadership skills, to think independently, and to creatively solve problems in the ever changing world around them. Criteria used for selection include SAT and ACT scores, rank in class, the nature of courses taken in high school, and grade-point average.
One and two-year transfer students from other institutions of higher learning may apply for membership in the Honors Program if their transcripts indicate superior achievement and the ability to do high-quality academic work, and if they will be able to take enough Honors-designated courses to graduate from the program during their time at Limestone. Retention in the Honors Program is dependent upon maintaining a “B” or higher cumulative average (3.0 to 4.0 scale) in all coursework. Students who successfully complete the program’s requirements will receive special recognition at their graduation.
