Spring Choral Concert Scheduled For Thursday, May 3

The Limestone College & Community Chorus will present its Spring Concert, entitled Gute Reise! "Bon Voyage,” on Thursday, May 3, at 7:30 p.m. in Fullerton Auditorium.

The concert, which is a culmination of this year's "Reformation Reflections" series at Limestone, is free and open to the public.

The chorus will be conducted by the College’s Professor of Choral/Vocal Education Dr. Gena Poovey and will be accompanied by Limestone Professor of Music Dr. David Thompson.

“This annual concert is a reflection of the musical work and preparation that the students have done all semester long,” Poovey noted. “This particular year, the musical selections help celebrate the Protestant Reformation and the culture that resulted from that historic movement. Our selections are beautiful, and we trust they will be stimulating to the hearts and minds of the audience members.”

Many of the selections will be the same as the ones the group will perform in Germany later in the month. The music represents many of the masters, especially the German music masters, who were a part of or followed in the history after the Protestant Reformation. Those German composers include Bach, Mozart, Schubert, Rheinberger, Mendelssohn, and Bruckner.

The spring concert will also include American compositions by Aaron Copland, Dan Forrest, and Duke Ellington.

Over the past nine months, Limestone’s Division of Arts & Letters has sponsored an extensive program of celebrations to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the beginning of the Protestant Reformation.

The trip to Germany for the choral group will take place May 13-20, with stops in Berlin, Wittenberg, Leipzig, Erfurt, Eisenach, and Dresden.
