Riggins To Receive Honorary Degree From Limestone On May 10

A dedicated Limestone College alumnus, supporter, and Board of Trustees member will receive a special recognition during an upcoming commencement ceremony.

At Limestone’s graduation on Thursday, May 10, devoted graduate, loyal trustee, benefactor, and friend David P. Riggins will be awarded an honorary Doctor of Public Service degree.

Now residing in Charlotte with his wife, Hope, Riggins is a native of Cherokee County and graduated from Gaffney High School. He is now the President/Owner of D.P. Riggins & Associates, Inc., a Charlotte-based company that he founded in 1982. D.P. Riggins and Associates, Inc. has grown into a leading sales agency that specializes in custom metal and plastic component parts for Original Equipment Manufacturers.

Serving his third term as a member of the Limestone Board of Trustees where he currently serves as Vice Chairperson, Riggins was selected to Chair the College’s Presidential Search Committee in 2017.

“David has a roll-up-your-sleeves approach to getting important things done, and personifies what it means to be a servant-leader,” said Limestone College President Dr. Darrell Parker. “David’s professionalism and personal involvement at Limestone is an inspiration to others. We are proud to call him one of our own, and he is certainly deserving of this honor bestowed upon him by the Board of Trustees. Limestone has been, and continues to be, a better place because of David’s steadfast service and support.”

Riggins attended Limestone College and became a member of the Class of 1973. During his time as a student at Limestone, Riggins was one of the driving forces behind the creation of intramural and club sports, clubs that soon evolved into men’s basketball and men’s golf as varsity-sponsored sports for the 1973-1974 seasons. He also played an important role in adopting the school’s official “Saints” nickname. Because of those accomplishments, David was named a special inductee into the Limestone Athletics Hall of Fame in 2017.

In addition, while a student at the College, he was an active member of the Lambda Mu Sigma fraternity.

Upon graduation from Limestone, Riggins went on to earn his Master’s in Business Administration from Winthrop University.

He has served on numerous boards, including Clemson University Board of Visitors, Winthrop University Business Administration Advisory Board, Wofford College President’s Advisory Board, and formerly served as President of the Grandfather Golf & Country Club.

An advocate for underprivileged children, he is heavily involved with Crossnore School & Children’s Home and “A Better World,” and served as a past Chairman of the Board for both organizations. Crossnore provides a safe and loving home where children receive an excellent education. “A Better World” is an after school program in Charlotte that helps rebuild the future of children in broken communities. The program provides basic physical needs, individualized academic programs, and spiritual development.

A charitable philanthropist, Riggins is a member of the Limestone Legacy Circle at the Loyalty Level. The Legacy Circle recognizes the College’s most generous donors for their cumulative lifetime giving.

He is a member of Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church in Charlotte, where he has served on numerous committees.

Riggins is the son of Barbara Riggins and the late Wallace Riggins, brother to Stanley Riggins and the late Stephen Riggins, and father to Bob Riggins.
