Limestone College Theatre To Present "Learned Ladies" February 22-24

Limestone College’s Department of Theatre will present “The Learned Ladies” during a three-night run February 22-24.

Showtime will be at 7:30 each night at Limestone Center Theatre, located at 130 Leadmine Street in Gaffney.

Starting at 6:45 p.m., there will be a dramaturgical presentation before the show on February 23.

“The Learned Ladies” tells the story of Henriette and Clitandre, two young people in love who, in order to marry, must successfully navigate Henriette’s demanding and overeducated family. With the help of Henriette’s father and uncle, along with the zany house servants who favor the marriage, the couple must convince the rest of the family that the match is a good one.
Jeanna Burch will play Henriette in the production, while J.R. Bloomer takes on the role of Clitandre. Rounding out the cast are Chuck Carr, James Holmes, Jade Alford, Jesse Cantrell, Autumn Krueger, Christian Shupe, Zach Potter, Nick Alberts, Stephan Corry, Darnell Cabbagestalk, Angela Vivaldi, Alex Smith, and Angel Gomez. The show is directed by Rob Kahn.

Limestone crew members for the show will include Ashleigh Ramsey as stage manager, James Holmes as set designer, Vandy Scoates as lighting and costume designer, Luke Holt as sound designer and light board operator, Britney Williams as sound board operator, and Bre Surrat as backstage set/costume crew.

Originally produced in 1672 France, this updated translation by Freyda Thomas makes the language fun and modern, setting the production in 1910 Paris while maintaining the original comedic style of playwright Moliere.

“This fun and energetic production will be a barrel of laughs for the whole family,” said Scoates, Limestone’s Assistant Professor of Theater. “Come see us do this classic verse play in a new and exciting manner.”
