"Emergent" Art Exhibit Now Underway at Granberry Gallery

Christina Laurel's "Emergent: a lily pad installation" art exhibit is now on display in Granberry Gallery at Limestone College.

The exhibit will run through Friday, October 20.

"The lily pad is a living entity with roots that are submerged in the earth, but its growth propels it through water to emerge into the air above. It is a motif ripe with symbolism,” Laurel said. “This exhibit transforms the space into an oasis of respite from our daily sensory bombardment. Both the horizontal format and the properties of a lily pond are inherently calming.”

Laurel’s dimensional lily pads are crafted with two different weights of Japanese shoji paper, sewn at the seams. They float above cradled-wood panels – which represent the water.

The "Artist Talk" with Laurel is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 28, at 6 p.m., followed by a reception from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Admission is free and the public is invited to attend.
