Bloomer, Nichols Capture Limestone's 2019-2020 Presidential Excellence Awards

Limestone College recognizes each year faculty and staff members who go above and beyond to provide exceptional customer service and quality impressions in the classroom.

For the 2019-2020 academic year, it was announced recently that the Classroom High Impact Practices Award for a faculty member went to Dr. Randy Nichols, Associate Professor of Professional Communication. The Customer Service Award for a staff member went to Dennis Bloomer, who is the College's Senior Associate Athletics Director for Compliance.

Dr. Darrell Parker and his wife, Kathy, announced in 2018 that they were endowing the new “Presidential Excellence Awards Program” at Limestone College.

Nichols has been a member of the Limestone College faculty since 2011. He teaches Communications, Digital Literacies, and Critical Thinking. Bloomer is a 1985 graduate of Limestone, and has worked at the College since he enrolled in 1981. His career includes an eight-year stint as Limestone’s Athletics Director. He previously served as the head coach for both the softball and women’s basketball teams.

Through a $25,000 contribution by the Parkers to an endowed fund, the Presidential Excellence Awards Program will provide two annual $500 cash prizes to faculty and staff members who exhibit exceptional customer service and superb high impact practices in the classroom. Until the endowed fund grows to support the yearly gifts, the Parkers are providing the cash prizes through a restricted annual fund.

“We want Limestone College to be well-known for its excellent customer service and high impact practices in the classroom,” Parker said. “Because of that, we need to regularly recognize and celebrate the best examples. We want to congratulate both Dennis and Randy for being this year’s winners. Both are certainly very deserving.”

A selection committee was appointed to accept applications and nominations in each of the two categories.

The Customer Service Award is granted to a staff member who has contributed to the enhancement of quality customer service and satisfaction at the College.

The Classroom High Impact Practices Award is given to a faculty member who has implemented teaching and learning process improvements or initiatives over the past year that significantly increased effectiveness and efficiency in the classroom.
