MARCH 28: Classes Cancelled, Offices Closed Due To Water Line Break

March 28,2018

UPDATED (11:31 AM): Due to the water line break and related issues, classes at Limestone College have been cancelled for the remainder of the day (March 28). Faculty and Staff offices are also closed. Essential personnel will remain on duty, as needed.

The Gaffney Board of Public Works advises the customers of the Gaffney Board of Public Works, located in Cherokee County, to vigorously boil their water for at least one (1) full minute prior to drinking or cooking.

THIS ADVISORY APPLIES TO LIMESTONE COLLEGE.

ALSO… many Limestone College buildings are experiencing low water pressure or no water pressure. Please limit water usage as much as possible in all Limestone College buildings. For buildings with low water pressure, when flushing toilets, please hold down the handle until all the water leaves the bowl.

Limestone College Dining Services will remain on a normal schedule – all water used by Limestone College Dining Services is boiled.

A major line break at the water treatment plant has resulted in a loss of pressure and to the customers of the Gaffney Board of Public Works. There has been no confirmed contamination of the system. However, because of the loss of pressure, the potential for contamination exists. Therefore, as a precautionary measure, the customers of the Gaffney Board of Public Works are advised to vigorously boil their water for at least one (1) full minute prior to drinking or cooking until notified otherwise by the Department. Also, any beverages made from water which has not been boiled should not be used for drinking purposes.

Water system personnel are working to restore pressure and service to the entire system. The advisory will remain in place until a repeal is issued. If you should have any questions concerning this Notice, you may call the Gaffney Board of Public Works at (864) 488-8801.
