Exercise Science Concentration Coming To Limestone In Fall 2019

Limestone College’s Department of Physical Education will begin offering a concentration in Exercise Science during its 2019 fall semester.

Exercise Science is a fast-growing field that scientifically addresses issues of fitness and human performance. The new concentration will prepare students to work in professions involving fitness, wellness, exercise physiology and kinesiology/biomechanics.

It also prepares students for graduate school programs such as exercise physiology, biomechanics, and physical or occupational therapy. Students gain basic and advanced knowledge of the structure and function of the human body, nutrition and health, and clinical exercise physiology. Students also learn about research methods, leadership, and safety/emergency response skills.

“The addition of Exercise Science to our current concentrations in Physical Education, Teacher Education, General Physical Education, and Physical Education Strength and Conditioning is an important step in the development of our program,” said Department of Physical Education Chair Rhonda Fleming. “We expect this new program to be very popular with prospective students.”

Limestone’s existing Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education prepares students for various career opportunities including teaching, coaching, and work in various fitness environments. The new Exercise Science program is designed for students who wish to find specialized roles in fitness environments or to pursue graduate study in Exercise Science.
