Principles of Biochemistry

Presents an introductory study of the major metabolic pathways in the eukaryotic cell.  Topics include the structure and metabolism of amino acids, proteins, nucleic acids, carbohydrates and lipids.  Enzyme kinetics, metabolic regulation, thermodynamics, and enzymatic mechanisms will also be introduced.  A weekly three-hour laboratory will focus on basic biochemical techniques.  Three lecture and three laboratory hours per week.   Prerequisites: successful completion of Biology 282 and Chemistry 303 with a grade of "C" or better, or permission of instructor. Lab Fee. Credit, 4 hours.
