"Sing Today" Concert Set For Sunday, Nov. 22

The Limestone College and Community Chorus and the Limestone College Vocal Ensemble will present a fall concert entitled “Sing Today,” on Sunday, Nov. 22, at 3 p.m., at Limestone Presbyterian Church in Gaffney.

The concert, which is free and open to the public, will be conducted by Dr. Gena Poovey, Professor of Choral/Vocal Music Education and Director of Choral Activities at Limestone. The piano accompanist for the concert is Dr. David B. Thompson, Professor of Music at Limestone.

“The concert is planned with the intention of helping usher in the holiday season with festive choral selections such as Jean Berger’s ‘Alleluia’ from the Brazilian Psalms and Bach’s ‘Shout and Be Joyful’ from his Christmas Oratorio,” Dr. Poovey explained. “This concert should whet the musical appetites of the audience members with a taste of traditional Christmas fare that we hope will prepare their hearts and minds for Christmas.”

Some of the seasonal tunes will include “Patapan,” “Little Drummer Boy,” and “Nutcracker Jingles.”  Featuring the Limestone College choral groups, the program will include Limestone’s first-ever hand bell choir.  A number of volunteer singers from the community will be performing as well.  Those singers represent Buford Street United Methodist Church; Circle of Grace Lutheran Chapel; First Baptist Church, Gaffney; First Presbyterian Church, Spartanburg; Grassy Pond Baptist Church; and Limestone Presbyterian Church,
