Limestone College Social Work students are determined to make a merry Christmas a reality for people in need within their communities.
They're doing it by way of providing funds for the necessities of living.
For the second consecutive year, the Social Work Association of Students enrolled in the College's Kingstree Extended Campus classroom distributed funds to various local organizations committed to seeing that the basic needs of the underprivileged are met. The money was raised throughout the year via cookouts and yard sales organized by the students.
Counties served by the organizatiion are Williamsburg, Florence, Clarendon, Georgetown, and Darlington.
"Each year, we actively reach out to non-profit agencies in Williamsburg and Georgetown counties in an effort to raise funds and awareness for the unemployed, homeless, and destitute in our communities," said Monique Fulton. "It is our hope that in addition to providing assistance for those who are in need that our actions demonstrate the true need for social work in this pivotal time when so many are struggling financially due to the grim circumstances of the economy."
