| Limestone Social Work Majors in Kingstree Demonstrate Spirit of Helping Others |
Whether they are on the main campus in Gaffney or at one of the College's eight Extended Campus sites, Limestone College students have a heart for serving others. The epitome of such a calling is the Social Work Association Students at the Kingstree, SC Extended Campus site of Limestone College Class of 2010.To The Friendship Place in Georgetown, S.C., the students donated $375, a vast assortment of Christmas gifts, canned-food products, and clothing, and packed 60 bagged lunches that were distributed to low-income children. The Friendship Place will use this donation to meet the unmet needs of Georgetown County to include feeding the hungry, shelter the homeless, train the unemployed and under-employed, and provide transportation to a free medical clinic, for those without insurance. "We are firmly committed to helping others," said Vanessa Ewing '11, President of the Social Work Association Students. "Each year, we actively reach out to non-profit agencies in Williamsburg and Georgetown counties in an effort to raise funds and awareness for the unemployed, homeless, and destitute in our communities. It is our hope that in addition to providing assistance for those who are in need that our actions demonstrate the true need for social work in this pivotal time when so many are struggling financially due to the grim circumstances of the economy." Limestone offers the bachelor in social work degree through its Division of Social and Behavioral Sciences. The major is most appropriate for students planning a career in Social Work plus many other areas of human services. |
