The 28th Annual Christmas on Campus Celebration will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2012.
About Christmas on Campus
Christmas on Campus is an annual celebration held each December on the Limestone College campus. This year, we are celebrating our 28th Anniversary.
The tradition of celebrating Christmas on Campus dates back to 1984 when the late Les Gregory, a former employee and graduate of Limestone College, arranged for 200 luminaries to be lit in honor of retired Limestone College professor Lucy G. Wheeler. With that, Christmas on Campus was born. Since Gregory's inception, the luminaries have grown from 200 to over 10,000 candles and Christmas on Campus has evolved into the night of magic and wonder that we know today.
The Lighting of the Luminaries is one of several events held on Saturday evening. The College's Music and Theatre Departments will perform selections from Irving Berlin's musical, White Christmas, for all those attending festivities. White Christmas is about a successful song-and-dance team who become romantically involved with a sister act and team up to save the failing Vermont inn of their former commanding general.
Following the musical, the crowd will gather for the ceremonial reading of A Christmas Story, Lighting of the Christmas Tree, refreshments, and a visit from Santa Claus on the Front Campus.
The Limestone Luminaries Christmas Decorating Contest will take place along the luminary route of College Drive, Rutledge Avenue, South Johnson Street, South Petty Street, and South Limestone Street. All homes where luminaries are placed are eligible to win the contest. The event is sponsored by Buford Street Drugs and ACE Hardware. Gift certificates will be awarded to the first, second, and third place winners. If you qualify and would like to participate in the decorating contest, please select the following link, complete the form, and mail to:
