|Limestone Reaccredited by Southern Association of Colleges and Schools|
The Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) has reaffirmed its accreditation for Limestone College. The announcement comes after a meticulous three-year self-study by Limestone officials and an on-campus site visit by a SACS-approved team of faculty and administrators from peer institutions.
Affiliated with the Council for Higher Education Accreditation, SACS develops standards for quality programs in eleven Southern states. Accreditation indicates an institution maintains clearly specified educational objectives consistent with its mission and appropriate to the degrees it offers.
"Accreditation is the primary means of assuring accountability and improving the quality of higher-education institutions," said Dr. Walt Griffin, president of Limestone. "The accreditation process is grounded upon integrity, thoughtful and principled judgment and a commitment to truth. The process also serves as an assessment of a college's effectiveness in the fulfillment of its mission and its continuing efforts to enhance the overall quality of the student experience."
Limestone Executive Vice President Dr. Karen Gainey said, "The process of self study involved in securing reaffirmation by SACS has benefited Limestone College in a number of ways, helping us to examine and assess institutional programs and continually improve the ways we fulfill the College mission. The College's faculty and staff have worked hard over the past three years, and I am very proud of this important accomplishment."SACS accredits Limestone to award baccalaureate and associate degrees at its home campus in Gaffney and its eight sites throughout the state at which evening courses are offered (Aiken, Charleston, Columbia, Florence, Gaffney, Greer, Kingstree and Yemassee).
