HOMECOMING ACTIVITIES THIS WEEKEND AT LIMESTONE COLLEGE

GRAPHIC - Homecoming 2013Limestone College alumni will have the chance to reconnect with friends and take a stroll down memory lane this weekend, Oct. 4-5, as the Homecoming celebration comes to the Gaffney campus.

The annual event will bring together the entire community of alumni, parents, students, faculty, staff, and friends for a celebration packed with activities – including sporting events, the Athletics Hall of Fame Induction, a campus-wide picnic, the annual Saints Club Golf Tournament, and more.

 

Throughout the weekend, parents and families will have the opportunity to visit their students and learn more about the Limestone experience.

To get things started, the 15th annual Saints Club golf tournament is scheduled for Cherokee National Golf Course on Friday, Oct. 4, beginning with registration at 11:30 a.m. For more information, visit www.golimestonesaints.com/SaintsClub.

Also on Friday, the Limestone field hockey team will take on Mercy College at Timken Field, beginning at 4 p.m. The women’s volleyball team will host Erskine College at Timken Gymnasium starting at 7 p.m.

Activities get into full gear on Saturday, Oct. 5, starting with the women’s soccer alumni game at Saints Field at 9 a.m.

From 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., the campus book store will be open for all homecoming guests, and visitors will receive a 10 percent discount on purchased merchandise (excluding textbooks).

The men’s soccer alumni game gets underway at Saints Field starting at 10 a.m. At the same time, the men’s lacrosse alumni game starts on the football practice field.

At 11 a.m., the men’s soccer 30th anniversary celebration and reception will be held inside the Hall of Fame Room at the Limestone Center. The same group will enjoy a luncheon at Capri on Main, starting at 1 p.m.

The women’s lacrosse alumni game will start at 11 a.m., on the practice field between Bob Prevatte Field and Lady Saints Field. Also at 11 a.m., the softball alumni game will begin at Lady Saints Field.

Fun for the entire family can be found on the front campus of Limestone, between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., at the Tailgate & Family Fun Zone. Ticket prices are $8 per adult, and $5 per child (6 -12 years). Admission is free for children 5 years or younger. The event will feature entertainment, inflatable games, food, and more.

Starting at 1 p.m., the baseball alumni game will get underway at Bob Prevatte Field.

Also at 1 p.m., the current women’s volleyball team will have a showdown with North Greenville University at Timken Gymnasium.

The current women’s soccer squad will also face North Greenville at 1 p.m., at Saints Field.

At 3 p.m., the current men’s soccer team faces North Greenville at Saints Field. The 30th anniversary players will be recognized at halftime. Alumni soccer players from all years are invited to attend.

Each year, the Limestone College Athletics Hall of Fame inducts a new class of individuals who have brought recognition and prominence to Limestone through their athletic accomplishments and many years of continued service. The 2013 inductees will include:

  • Meghan Dennehy ’04, women’s lacrosse
  • Felicia Hallums ’02, women’s basketball
  • Margaret Loflin Carpenter ’86, women’s volleyball
  • Nikhil Loganadan ’83, men’s tennis
  • Jesse Myers ’88, men’s soccer
  • Frank Purdy ’91, men’s basketball
  • Devan Spilker ’03, men’s lacrosse
  • Dr. Walt Griffin, special Inductee

The Hall of Fame reception will take place at 5:30 p.m. at the Gaffney Visitors Center, and the banquet will follow at 7 p.m. at Stephenson Dining Hall.
