Limestone College

Carol Poplin & John Cason of The History Workshop hanging displays in Limestone's Winnie Davis Hall of History that depict the College's history from its founding through present day.

On Tuesday, March 5th at 7:00 p.m., Limestone College will host an open house reception in the Winnie Hall of History to showcase its permanent display of College artifacts.

The reception is free and open to the public, and everyone is encouraged to attend.

According to Limestone College Historian Dr. Patricia Hoskins, the items on display are ones that best represent the storied history of the College. "Included in our collection are early writings by Limestone College founders Dr. Thomas Curtis and his son William, who were distinguished scholars from England. We also have a pipe owned by Dr. Lee Davis Lodge (President of Limestone from 1899-1923), as well as a mortar board owned by Robert C. Granberry (President of Limestone from 1923-1952)," she said.

There are also numerous items reflecting student life at Limestone throughout the years, including:

• A charcoal drawing completed by a Limestone art student in 1850
• A wooden dumbbell that was used by Limestone Physical Education students in the 1930s
• Various items of clothing worn by Limestone students in the 1880s.

Also featured is a panel display created by The History Workshop in Charleston, SC, features photographs from throughout the College's history.

Serving as informal tour guides during the reception will be four Limestone History majors who are also members of Phi Alpha Theta, a national history honor society. "These young ladies are exceptional students who excel at history," said Dr. Hoskins. Those students are:
