The collaboration is the first college production of The Drowsy Chaperone in the Upstate. The production is both a Limestone College event and the last Cherokee County Arts Council series event this season. The Council is providing funding for the ten-person orchestra which will perform throughout the production. The Drowsy Chaperone runs Thursday, March 31, through Saturday, April 2 and again on Saturday, April 9 with curtain times at 7:30 p.m. Sunday matinee performances are scheduled for April 3 and April 10 at 3:00 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults; $7 for seniors (65 and older) and children (16 and under with accompaniment of an adult. As the curtain rises, the audience finds itself in the New York apartment of a modern day musical theatre aficionado known simply as "Man in Chair." As he drops the needle on his album version of his favorite musical--The Drowsy Chaperone--his imagination takes flight as his apartment is filled with the cast of the production which includes a pampered Broadway starlet who wants to give up show business to get married, her producer who is determined to sabotage the nuptials, her chaperone, the debonair groom, a Latin lover, and a pair of gangsters who double as pastry chefs. Throughout the production, "Man in Chair" provides insight into character backgrounds and his favorite and least favorite scenes. The production at Limestone is directed by Dr. Tim Baxter-Ferguson, Director of Limestone's Theatre Department. "I first saw The Drowsy Chaperone during its Broadway tour about two years ago," he said. "I had heard of it but did not know the plot or any of the songs. But about five minutes into the production, I was in love with it. In describing it, I would say that The Drowsy Chaperone is a musical for people who love musicals. It's fast-paced and doesn't let up until the final moment of the production." The cast includes a ten-person orchestra conducted by Dr. David Thompson, Professor of Music at Limestone, Limestone College students and community members from Spartanburg and Gaffney. The cast listing is as follows: Jenna Alford (Gaffney) The orchestra is comprised of
