The Limestone College athletic teams welcomed the Christmas season by lighting luminaries around campus and along College Drive in preparation for the event. The Saints began working on the luminaries early Saturday morning as the candles were set out on the streets, ready to be lit. The Men's and Women's Lacrosse teams worked during the early evening, lighting over 14,000 candles that lined the streets of Gaffney for over a mile.
Following the concert, the crowd gathered for the ceremonial Lighting of the Christmas Tree on the Front Campus and enjoyed refreshments and a visit from Santa Claus. The Fourth Annual Limestone Luminaries Christmas Decorating Contest took place along the luminary route of College Drive, Rutledge Avenue, South Johnson Street, South Petty Street, and South Limestone Street. All homes where the luminaries were placed were eligible to win the contest. The event was sponsored by Buford Street Drugs and ACE Hardware, which provided gift to the first, second, and third place winners.
The grand prize winner, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Bright of 605 College Drive, received a $125 gift certificate. The second place prize winners, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Rilling of 427 South Petty Street, received a $50 gift certificate.
The third place prize winners, Mr. and Mrs. Gary Lovelace of 112 East Rutledge Avenue, received a $25 gift certificate. The College would like to thank Buford Street Drugs and ACE Hardware for their generous donations to the contest and we hope this will be a continued tradition for Christmas on Campus.
