The Limestone College athletic teams welcomed the Christmas season by lighting luminaries around campus and along College Drive in preparation for the event.  The Saints began working on the luminaries early Saturday morning as the candles were set out on the streets, ready to be lit. The Men's and Women's Lacrosse teams worked during the early evening, lighting over 14,000 candles that lined the streets of Gaffney for over a mile.

The luminaries are a 26-year-tradition started by the late Les Gregory, a former employee and alumnus of Limestone College. In 1985, he arranged for 200 luminaries to be lit in honor of retired Limestone College professor Lucy G. Wheeler. Since Gregory's inception, the luminaries have grown from 200 to 14,000 candles.

The lighting of the luminaries was one of several events held Saturday evening. The College's Music Department performed a Sounds of the Season concert for all those attending Christmas on Campus. Sounds of the Season was a unique, festive montage of choral music performed by the Buford Bells (Buford Street United Methodist Church), the Limestone College and Community Chorus, the Limestone College Men's Ensemble, and the Limestone College Pan Band.

Following the concert, the crowd gathered for the ceremonial Lighting of the Christmas Tree on the Front Campus and enjoyed refreshments and a visit from Santa Claus.

The Fourth Annual Limestone Luminaries Christmas Decorating Contest took place along the luminary route of College Drive, Rutledge Avenue, South Johnson Street, South Petty Street, and South Limestone Street. All homes where the luminaries were placed were eligible to win the contest. The event was sponsored by Buford Street Drugs and ACE Hardware, which provided gift to the first, second, and third place winners.
