During Limestone's Alumni Weekend events (April 15-17), seven alumni were presented with the College's highest alumni honors.
Randy Hines '79; Alumnus of the Year
 Randy Hines '79 |
Hines thrived in the small college atmosphere. As a student-athlete, his passion for golf and drive for success on the greens led to his being named Most Valuable Player for the Saints Golf Team. After graduating, he coached the Saints golf teams and was named NAIA District Coach of the Year for three straight years. After leaving the College for a marketing position in Atlanta, he was invited to coach the 1984 team in their national championship match, which they won.
While Hines has leveraged his strong work ethic into building his own successful Atlanta, Georgia-based marketing company, he has given generously to his alma mater in the form of support and leadership. He has served multiple terms as a Trustee and is Chair of the College's "Today's Needs...Tomorrow's Dreams" capital campaign. The College and her students also continue to benefit from his love of golf through his founding of the annual Rogue Classic Golf Tournament, which benefits the Limestone College Scholarship Endowment Program.
Beth Painter Bradley '89; Service to College Award Introduction
 Beth Painter Bradley '89 |
This award is presented annually to a Limestone graduate who shows a genuine love for their alma mater. And Bradley is the personification of that sentiment. About her Limestone experience, Beth said "My time at Limestone changed my life because I feel that as a student I matured into a more well-rounded person. I am so proud of Limestone."
After graduating with magna cum laude honors, Bradley continued to stoke the fires of her love affair with Limestone. She has served separate terms as President and Secretary for the Limestone College Alumni Board and has expressed her loyalty in the form of faithful financial support by steadfastly supporting the Limestone Fund, the Saints Club, the renovation projects for Hamrick Hall of Science and Winnie Davis Hall of History
Susan Henderson Greenway '78; Service to Education;
 Susan Henderson Greenway '78 |
Greenway began her more-than-thirty-year career as an educator at nearby Chesnee High School. But she did not limit her instruction to Monday through Friday classroom sessions; she taught Saturday School for credit recovery, was an instructor for homebound students, and was an afterschool tutor.
Greenway also taught young adults at the collegiate level at Spartanburg Community College and USC-Upstate, where she currently works with advanced high school students who attend that university's Scholars Academy.
Trey Still '03; Young Alumnus of the Year Introduction
 Trey Still '03 |
As a student-athlete, Still graduated cum laude with double majors in Business Administration and Management Information Systems, and received the Business Excellence Award-all while doubling as catcher and outfielder for the Saints Baseball Team. Additionally, Trey represented the College as a member of SALC-the Student Alumni Leadership Council. He served as Vice President of the group during the 2002-2003 academic year.
After graduating from Limestone, Still enrolled in Florida Coastal Law School... made the Dean's List twice and the Dean's Scholar List once. He later graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Law and passed the South Carolina Bar Exam.
He is currently employed as an Associate with Clarkson, Walsh, Terrell & Coulter Practicing Attorneys in Greenville, and specializes in insurance defense.
Treva Dixon Hamrick '77 ; Service to Church
 Treva Dixon Hamrick '77 |
Hamrick's love for history and her meticulous approach to its documentation resulted in the History of Grassy Pond Church, a publication for which she was recognized by the South Carolina Baptist State Convention for writing the best church history book in 1986.
Hamrick has also served Grassy Pond Baptist by organizing and directing its 100-Year Celebration; serving on the church's Finance, Constitution and Social Hall Committees; and being an active member of the Church's Women's Missionary Union.
Jerry Shelby '88; Service to Community
 Jerry Shelby '88 |
Giving freely of one's self for service to community is perhaps the noblest of one's efforts. And because Shelby truly embraces the idea of making a difference in the lives of others, it is a privilege that we present to him today the Limestone College Service to Community Award.
The fact that he has been recognized by the great states of his native Ohio and North Carolina with their highest awards for philanthropic efforts speaks volumes. If there's any truth to the saying "It's not what we are but what we do and for what we do we shall be remembered"...Jerry Shelby will be remembered for generations to come.
J. Rick Patterson; Honorary Alumnus
 Rick Patterson |
A graduate of Wofford and LSU, Patterson has served Limestone as a Trustee on several occasions and has provided insightful leadership on the Finance Committee and Investment Committee. It was through his guidance that the College has been able to develop an investment policy to protect the growth of the College's Endowment Fund. He has also been appointed as Vice Chair for the Athletics component of the College's "Today's Needs...Tomorrow's Dreams" capital campaign.
Patterson is actively involved in the Rotary Club, the Cherokee County Foundation Board, and the Cherokee County Civic Club. Perhaps he is best known beyond Gaffney by running up and down the fields of the National Football League as an on-field official. And as is typical with Rick, he gives it his all; he has officiated two Super Bowls, two Pro Bowls, and two All-American Bowls.
