Jake Thomason

Jake Thomason, tenor, has joined the faculty of the Limestone College Community Music School, and began instruction in September.

The 25-year-old Greenville native holds a bachelor of music in voice performance from Furman University and a master's in music in voice performance from Indiana University. He has already garnered a vast array of performance experiences by performing in operas, concerts, recitals, and oratorios in Europe and in the Southeast and Midwest areas of the United States.

In 2006, he performed his first semi-operatic role, "Frederic," in Gilbert and Sullivan's The Pirates of Penzance at Furman University. He was chosen to study voice in the fall of 2007 at the Accademia dell'Arte in Arezzo, Italy. In 2008 he played "Satyavan"in Gustav Holst's opera Savitri, also at Furman. In 2009, he was invited to perform the role of "Ferrando" in Mozart's Cosí fan tutte at the Lyric Opera Studio of Weimar, Germany. In the summer of 2011 he, along with some of his colleagues, presented a concerted version of Massenet's Werther, with Jake in the title role. He has appeared in scenes from Puccini's La Bohème, Verdi's La Traviata, Verdi's Rigoletto, Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Mozart's Don Giovanni, and Poulenc's Les Dialogues des Carmélites. At Indiana University he has been in the choruses for Lucia di Lammermoor, Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Faust, La Boheme, and Der Rosenkavalier. He has participated in masterclasses with Carol Vaness, Sherrill Milnes, Carlos Montané, Stanford Olsen, and Betsy Bishop.

Thomason says that he hopes that his Limestone Community Music School students will enjoy his somewhat relaxed method of instruction. "I think of myself as an 'easy going' type of individual, and structure my one-on-one classes to meet the style of the individual student. I am a firm believer that teaching voice is a team effort; I can lead the student in the right direction but it is up to them to do the work."

Housed in Limestone's Carroll Fine Arts Building, the Limestone College Community Music School offers one-on-one instruction in voice, percussion, piano, guitar, string, woodwind, and brass to students of any age or musical ability. Kindermusik classes are also available for children ages 2-6 years old, and are taught by Pam Turnage, a licensed Kindermusik instructor and Director of the Community Music School.
