Scholarship Application Process Below is a list of Limestone Endowed Scholarships. An endowed scholarship is a grant that does not have to be repaid. The list provided is divided into broad academic areas. To apply for one of these scholarships, please write a letter to the Scholarship Committee, in care of Bobby Greer, Director of Financial Aid. In your letter please be sure to provide the following information:
Scholarships by Category Academic Merit Gordon Milton Adams Academic Scholarship Fund The purpose of the fund is to support a scholarship for students of academic merit and proven financial hardship at Limestone College. The recipient must demonstrate great financial need, maintain an overall "B" average, must not be a Physical Education major or minor, and must not participate in Limestone College athletics. Preference will be given to a student who has lived in a children's home or foster home and has a high school record proving academic ability. Albert B. Cline Scholarship Fund Scholarship will be awarded to entering freshman from Cherokee County who graduate in the top third of their class and have an SAT score in the top bracket. Ethel Chambers Dukes Scholarship Fund The recipient of the scholarship shall be a female of high academic merit enrolled at Limestone College. The student may be a freshman or upper classman, and the scholarship may be renewed provided the recipient is making satisfactory progress toward graduation and maintains a "B" grade point average. Pearl Anderson Gore Endowed Scholarship Fund The scholarship will be awarded to a young lady from South Carolina with good grades. Drada Hoover Endowed Scholarship Hoover Scholars must meet at least two of the following criteria, with preference given to those meeting all three.
For qualified students meeting all the criteria, need may be applied as a factor in the selection of the recipient. Recipients must maintain full-time student status with a minimum 3.5 GPA. Nani Lou Self Academic Scholarship The student must have maintained an overall GPA of 3.0 or better in high school, must be enrolled in the Day Program at Limestone, and must have demonstrated qualities of good leadership, citizenship, and a genuine interest in his/her chosen field. The scholarship is available to an incoming freshman that resides in Cherokee County, and may be renewed annually if the scholarship recipient maintains a GPA of 3.0 or better at Limestone College and is selected by the scholarship committee for renewal. John Harold Wolfe Memorial Scholarship Fund Scholarships will be known as Limestone Honor Scholarships. Science/Math Ouida Cox Bailey Scholarship The scholarship is awarded competitively to a freshman majoring in science and/or mathematics. The scholarship shall be awarded to an entering freshman. Selection is determined by using such criteria as class rank, grade point ratio, and SAT scores. The scholarship may be renewed by the Faculty Scholarship Committee for four years provided the recipient is making satisfactory progress toward graduation and maintains a "B" grade average. Hugh A. Cathey Scholarship Student(s) must be a rising junior or senior with a 3.0 GPA or better with a major in Chemistry. The scholarship(s) will be awarded to worthy students based on such criteria as GPA, class rank, SAT or ACT scores as well as good character and leadership qualities. Barbara R. Cunning Memorial Scholarship The purpose of the fund is to provide scholarship support. Criteria governing the selection of the recipient(s) are: need, must be making satisfactory academic progress, including earning appropriate credits toward graduation. If more than one candidate meets the criteria preference will be given to that student majoring in a medical related discipline. Jean Humphries Guthrie Mathematics Endowed Scholarship The purpose of the fund is to support the academic scholarship program for mathematics at Limestone College. J M Smith Foundation Scholarship The purpose of the fund is to support the academic scholarship program at Limestone College. Frank and Mary Sheldon Memorial Mathematics Scholarship The purpose of the fund is to support the academic scholarship program for Mathematics at Limestone College. The student must major in mathematics; have earned a 3.0 GPA in high school; and maintain a 2.75 GPA at Limestone. The student does not have to be need based. Humanities and Literature Vivian Elledge Ball Scholarship This scholarship is to be used solely for Limestone College students enrolled in the humanities programs, with preference to students with an interest in and a love for the study of literature. To be granted this scholarship, a student must have earned a minimum grade point average of 3.00 in high school, must have declared a major in the humanities, and must have demonstrated qualities of leadership, citizenship, and character. Scholarships may be renewed for those recipients whose college grade point average is maintained at a minimum of 3.00. The Ramona Westbury Hale Scholarship The income earned on the investment is to be used solely for scholarships to Limestone College students enrolled in the humanities program and who have declared a major in English. Recipient must have earned a minimum GPA of 3.00 in high school, must have an interest in and a love for literature, and have decided to pursue as college major in English. Scholarships may be renewed for those students whose college GPA is maintained at a minimum of 3.00. Business Perry-Bryan Family Business Leadership and Service Endowed Scholarship The recipient must be a student within the business department of the college, working toward a major in accounting, economics, general business, management, or marketing. Those working on a minor in church business administration or sports management may also apply. The recipient must be a rising junior or senior. A cumulative GPA of 3.0 must be maintained throughout the student's studies at Limestone College. The recipient must provide two letters of recommendation: 1) From a business professor or business leader 2) a civic leader, Church leader or employer. The recipient must submit an essay outlining his/her scholastic and leadership goals by answering the following three questions: 1) What were your reasons for choosing Limestone College for your continued educational goals? What were those goals and what strides have you made in reaching those goals? 2) During your time at Limestone, outline what scholastic awards or merits you have received and what leadership opportunities and/or awards u have part of? 3) Describe why you feel that you would make a good candidate to receive the Perry-Bryan Business and Leadership Scholarship. Social Work Penni Oncken Griffin Social Work Scholarship The purpose of the fund is to assist a deserving social work student. Criteria governing the selection of the recipient(s) are: sophomore standing or above. Must have 2.5 or better cumulative GPA and have been accepted into the social work program. Both day and extended campus students are eligible. Selection based on need and academic merit. To be renewed, must maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA and be involved with social work department activities. Recipient to be selected by chair of social work department. Barbara Gladden Vogel Scholarship The purpose of the fund is for scholarships for students in Social Work. Criteria governing the selection of the recipient(s) are sophomore status; 2.50 GPA; involvement in the department; commitment to social work profession. Teaching/Education Jean Scott Byars Scholarship Fund The purpose of the fund is to provide scholarship assistance to a student majoring in art or education. This student should continue to receive this scholarship as long as he or she is eligible to continue enrollment at Limestone College Students must be eligible to attend Limestone College and must be a major in the Department of Education or Art. The student should be a sophomore, junior, or senior and have a GPA between 2.0 and 3.0 Laura Kathleen Dobson Scholarship Fund The fund will be used to award the Laura Kathleen Scholarship to a female student working toward a degree in education. Faye Carter Edwards'51 and G. Preston Edwards Endowed Scholarship Criteria governing the selection of the recipient(s) are: financial need; must be enrolled as a full-time, traditional day student; and be strongly committed to the concept of education as a public good rather than a private benefit. The recipient may be male or female with preference given to females. The recipient shall be a sophomore, junior, or senior. The donors prefer this scholarship be awarded to an average student rather than concentrate on high intellect. The donors' main concern is to provide financial help for the average student who expresses an interest in bettering himself or herself. The student shall continue to receive this scholarship as long as she or he is eligible to continue enrollment at Limestone College. Sarah C. McCall Endowed Scholarship The student must be majoring in the teaching profession. Christian Education and Leadership Christian Education and Leadership Scholarship Student participants must complete at least one course each academic year from classes that include World Religions, The Old Testament, The New Testament, Christian Heritage, Christian Missions, and Christian Leadership. Outside the classroom, students will be involved in community service activities, internships, and other work projects in addition to mission trips in the United States and Other Countries. Students may receive scholarship support of up to $2,000 in the freshman year if they have a 2.75 cumulative GPA in high school and meet other qualifications. Students must submit a formal application, with appropriate letters of recommendation. Scholarships are renewable each year to a maximum of $2,500 the second year, $3,000 the third, and $3,500 the forth year, for those students that continue to meet program qualifications. Cecilia Meetze Moore - Dorothy Dicks Oliver Endowed Scholarship The purpose of the fund is to provide scholarship support for the Christian Education and Leadership Program at Limestone College. Criteria governing the selection of the recipient(s) are: an incoming freshman from Cherokee County enrolled in the Christian Education and Leadership Program who must meet the continuing requirements established by the program in 2000. As long as the student remains in good standing in the Christian Education and Leadership Program that student will receive the scholarship through graduation. If a student from Cherokee County is not available, a student from South Carolina is to be awarded the scholarship and receive all the benefits previously described. Lily Mae Clarke Turner Endowed Scholarship The purpose of the fund is to support the academic scholarship program at Limestone College. The student must be enrolled in the Christian Education and Leadership program. Fine Arts Jean Scott Byars Scholarship Fund The purpose of the fund is to provide scholarship assistance to a student majoring in art or education. This student should continue to receive this scholarship as long as he or she is eligible to continue enrollment at Limestone College Students must be eligible to attend Limestone College and must be a major in the Department of Education or Art. The student should be a sophomore, junior, or senior and have a GPA between 2.0 and 3.0 Alvin G. Cain Scholarship Fund The Alvin G. Cain Scholarship is designated primarily for students in art. Students must have declared art as a major to be considered for the scholarship; they must have a 3.30 GPA in high school; and they must have demonstrated an interest and a talent for art to be eligible Martha Anne Cline Scholarship Fund The purpose of the fund is to support the fine arts scholarship program of the college. The Cline Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of open competition to students who possess special creative talent in the fine arts and good character. The Margaret Poole Littlejohn Scholarship Fund The scholarship will be awarded annually to a music major by the faculty scholarship committee upon recommendation of the music faculty.The scholarship may be awarded to a promising freshman or to an upper classman.The scholarship may be renewed upon recommendation of the music faculty. Parker Music Scholarship Scholarship will be awarded to a music major Miscellaneous Walter E. (Gene) Brown Memorial Scholarship Criteria governing the selection of the recipient(s) are as follows:
Walter W. Brown Scholarship Fund No recipient may receive, as annual scholarships, a sum in excess of one-half of the total regular cost for attending Limestone College per year. Any son or daughter of descendants of Water W. Brown will have prior rights as recipient of the scholarship assistance from this endowed fund. In the absence of any son or daughter or direct descendant, then the scholarship will be available to a boy or girl, or boys and girls, who are members of the Goucher Baptist Church (Broad River Baptist Association), located in Cherokee County, SC. Any student beneficiary of the Walter W. Brown Scholarship Fund shall meet the requirements and standards of the College for admission, and after registration and admission, shall comply with the academic and other regulations of Limestone College and its student regulations. Louise Phifer Camp Americanism Scholarship Can be equal to, but not greater than, the substantiated financial need of the recipient(s) for the academic year to which the scholarship is to apply. The fund provides that the scholarship awarded to any recipient shall not exceed forty percent of the expenses reasonably incurred and directly incident to his or her education and such scholarship funds shall be applied by Limestone College to the recipient's charges. Students must oppose Communism or Socialism, and must be strong advocates of the private, free enterprise, competitive system of government provided for in the United States Constitution. Applicants must submit a paper clearly showing the advantage of Americanism over Communism or Socialism. Cocoros Family Scholarship Fund There is no stipulation as to major field and no restrictions to this scholarship. Lydia Louise Cox Endowed Scholarship Fund The purpose of the fund is to provide financial aid to a student in the Program for Alternative Learning (PALS). Criteria governing the selection of the recipient(s) are financial need and merit as discerned by staff members with training in this area. Ruth Moss Easterling Endowed Scholarship The Student must be a female from the south interested in political science and public service; must maintain a 3.0 GPA at Limestone College; and demonstrate leadership skills. If several students qualify, the student with the greatest financial need will be selected. A.J. and Winnie Wingo Eastwood Scholarship Fund Scholarships may be awarded for any amount up to 50% of the cost of attending Limestone College. Scholarships may be renewed for a period of four years provided the recipient maintains a "B" average. Faye Carter Edwards'51 and G. Eva June Foster Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund Criteria governing the selection of the recipient(s) are: student(s) must major in an area of the performing arts; first preference will be given to students majoring in music who have demonstrated their musical ability and whose grades are indicative of success at Limestone. Recipient's GPA should be a minimum of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale at the time of the scholarship award. Both male and female students are encouraged to apply for this scholarship. The Sue Hamrick Frye Scholarship Fund The fund will be used to award the Sue Hamrick Frye Scholarships to deserving students from Cherokee county enrolled at Limestone College. The scholarships may be awarded to freshmen or upper classmen and may be renewed for each recipient who maintains a "C" average and is making satisfactory progress toward graduation. Michael Gaffney Memorial Scholarship Fund The fund will provide scholarships for deserving Limestone College Students with financial need. The scholarships are renewable provided the recipient is making satisfactory progress toward graduation. The Oliver D. Hamrick Scholarship Fund The Oliver D. Hamrick scholarship will be awarded to deserving students attending Limestone College, with special consideration for Hamrick's employees and their children. Applicants must be accepted for admission to Limestone College, must complete an approved needs analysis form, and must apply for all grants recommended by the student financial aid office before these scholarships are awarded. Phippins, Jr. Scholarship The purpose of the scholarship is to reward an outstanding rising sophomore, junior or senior for his/her outstanding dedication and service to the college and the community. Student must be recommended by the Vice President for Student Services. Iva and Perry Reece Endowed Scholarship Recipient must be a long-term resident of Cherokee County, South Carolina and must have graduated from a Cherokee County high school. Thomas Henry Robelot '37 Endowed Scholarship Criteria governing the selection of the recipient(s) are male students enrolled at Limestone College who reside in the Upstate region of South Carolina with financial need. Mary Hilley Sizemore Fund The purpose of the fund is to provide financial assistance in circumstances that otherwise might prevent qualified students from completing their college education. Recipient(s) should be a currently enrolled student whose needs are not met by financial aid. |
