Physical Education Teacher Education
The Physical Education-Teacher Education program is approved by the SC Department of Education leading to K-12 certification in Physical Education. The following is a list of the coursework necessary for the Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education Teacher Education.
Required Courses
General Education Courses (57 Semester Hours): EN 101, 102, 105, 201 AR 240, MU 205, EN 212, TH 101 or Foreign Language RE or PL ID 100 or 201 ID 301 HI 110 or 111 HI 112 or 113 PS 101, 204 CST 102 MA 110 BI 101, 101L, 205, 205L, 206, 206L
Physical Education Teacher Education Major Courses: PE 131, 132, 133 (3 credits) PE 200, 201, 202 (9 credits) PE 217, 218, 219 (6 credits) PE 301, 302, 307, 320A, 322 (13 credits) PE 314, 323, 413, 414 (14 credits) PE 452, 453 (13 credits) ED 200, 209, 304, 310 (12 credits)
In addition to the coursework listed above, candidates for teacher certification must complete all the application requirements for admission to the Teacher Education Program and for approval to student teach including, but not limited to the following:
- Achieve a 2.5 cumulative grade-point average
- A grade of B or higher in the following courses: PE131, 132, 133, 217, 218, 219
- Fitness level tests
- Pass the Praxis I qualifying exam, prior to admission to the Teacher Education Program
- Pass the Praxis II and the PLT examinations prior to student teaching
