Ensembles @ Limestone College

 

The Department of Music offers numerous opportunities for both individual and group performance. Performance groups include the Wind Ensemble, Jazz Combo, Chorus, Brass Ensemble, Woodwind Ensemble, Piano Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Show Choir, Men's Ensemble,  iPan Steel Band Ensemble, and Saxophone Quartet. Participation scholarships are available to non-majors who enroll in a music ensemble. Music majors and students in other disciplines also have access to private instruction for credit, as well as eligibility for membership in the college chapter of Music Educators National Conference.

Brass Ensemble


Directed by Mr. David Hodges, the Brass ensemble of Limestone College is a relatively new ensemble committed to the performance of various levels of brass literature. They now perform regularly at Christmas on Campus, the semesterly small ensemble concert, as well as community performaces that they are requested to attend.

 Chorus


Directed by Dr. Gena E. Poovey and accompanied by Dr. David B. Thompson, the Limestone College and Community Chorus(LCCC) is the premiere choral ensemble at Limestone College. The SATB choir is composed of students (music and non music major a like) and very talented and devoted community members who love to sing. The ensemble is dedicated to above average performance of varying styles of choral literature. Each semester the choir holds a concert in Fullerton Auditorium or in a local area church to provide the community with an opportunity to here quality choral music. The LCCC also performs at graduation, ground breaking ceremonies, community events, at Old Salem, and on the Cherokee County Public Library's Music Sandwiched In Series. In 2000 the Limestone College and Community Chorus participated in a Mid-America Production performance of Scarlatti’s Dixit Domino in Carnegie Hall, under the direction of Dr. Larry Wyatt. In 2004 the Chorus traveled to Salt Lake City, Utah to sing in the Intermountain Choral Festival with Maestro Will Kesling and Dr. Andre Thomas, conductors, and in 2010 the Chorus traveled to Austria to perform Mozart's Coronation Mass. Other works performed by the Chorus in recent years include all of Handel’s Messiah, Vivaldi’s Gloria, Pinkham’s Christmas Cantata, and Rutter’s Feel the Spirit.  In addition to concerts given each semester, the ensemble is featured in local settings such as the library, local churches and the College’s annual Christmas on Campus Sounds of the Season concert.

Study and performance of choral literature of all historical periods in performance. Open to all students by audition or with the consent of the instructor. Three hours of rehearsal weekly. Credit, 1 hour.  

 

 Mens Ensemble

Directed by Dr. Gena E. Poovey, The Limestone College Men's Ensemble is a TTBB choir that is committed to above average  performance of varying styles of A Cappella and accompanied Men's repetoire.  The Men's Ensemble is composed of male students who have participated in chorus for at least one full year and wish to have more opportunities to share their vocal gift. They perform regularly at Limestone College's "Sharin' of the Green," graduation lunches, admissions events, ground breaking ceremonies, open houses, Chorus concerts, small ensemble concerts, an annual concert in Rockford's Historic District Christmas Event, Old Salem, public and private schools, community events, churches, and anywhere else that they might find themselves. They make several mini tours each semester sharing knowlege about Men's repetoire and the collegiate ensemble life with students throughout the Carolinas.

Study and performance of selected percussion literature. Open to qualified music majors and other with the consent of the instructor. Two hours of rehearsal weekly. Credit, 1 hour.

 

 Wind Ensemble


Directed by Dr. Douglas L. Presley, the Limestone College Wind Ensemble is made up of music and non-music majors. Each semester this ensemble performs college-level repertoire comprised of wind band classics and contemporary works. Membership is by appointment of the Director, and serves as degree requirements for music majors, and elective credit for non-music majors. Not only is academic credit available, but non-majors may also be eligible for scholarships to perform with the ensemble. In the fall of 2012 the ensemble moved into the newly remodeled, 15,000 square feet rehearsal facility located just off campus. In addition, the ensemble has been invited to perform in the 2014 London New Year's Day Parade and Festival.

 iPan Band (Steel Drum Ensemble)

Directed by Dr. Douglas L. Presley, the Limestone College iPan Band is a new ensemble dedicated to the performance of authentic Calipso music. The iPan Band has performed at the Limestone College Percussion Concert, Chamber of Commerce Events, City of Gaffney parades, churches throughout the Carolinas, Community Events throughout the Carolinas, public and private schools throughout the Carolinas, multiple Limestone College Events, as well as the Cherokee County Public Library's Music Sandwiched In. Most recently, the iPan Band was selected with the Wind Ensemble to perform in London in 2014.

 Percussion Ensemble

Directed by Mr. Jonan Keeny, the Limestone College Percussion ensemble is an ensemble dedicated to performing all varieties of percussion music. The Percussion Ensemble has performed at Graduation ceremonies, small ensemble concerts, percussion concerts, and other various venues.

 Saxophore (Sax quartet)

Directed by Dr. H. H. "Chip" HIll Jr., the Limestone College Saxophore is dedicated to the above average performance of various saxophone ensemble music. They have performed at graduation ceremonies, small ensemble concerts, and throughout the community at various events. This ensemble is not an every semester ensemble due to not having enough students to play parts. However the students who are able are eager to play.

 Show Choir

Directed by Dr. Gena E. Poovey, the Limestone College Show Choir is a small ensemble dedicated to the abouve average performance of various styles of SATB show choir music. The Show Choir has performed at graduation ceremonies, community events, and schools throughout the Carolinas.

A select ensemble of singers and instrumentalists chosen by audition to represent and promote the College. The emphasis is on the performance of popular choral selections in recruitment and community service setting. Requires movement as well as vocal skills and performances away from campus. Directed by Dr. David B. Thompson, the Limestone College Piano Ensemble is a small ensemble dedicated to the performance of various styles of piano music.
