Associate Professor of English, Director of the Writing Center and AWE Program
I am the survivor of a body-altering motor vehicle accident, the daughter of a metastatic breast cancer survivor, and the mother of two healthy, young children. I am also a natural birth advocate and a La Leche League leader candidate. When I am not teaching, writing, or changing diapers, I can often be found kayaking, hiking, swimming, swing dancing or baking—usually with my husband and children. I also have an advanced SCUBA certification and hope to re-immerse myself in the underwater world as soon as my children get a little older.
My nonfiction has appeared in The Gettysburg Review, Cold Mountain Review, Confrontation, Segue, Toasted Cheese, and The Asheville Citizen-Times among other journals. I have published dramatic writing in More New Monologues for Women by Women (Heinemann) and Boomtown: Explosive Writing from Ten Years of Queens MFA Program, and my plays have been produced on stages around the Carolinas. I teach writing as a process of constant revision. I am a member of the Association of Writers and Writing Programs, the Conference of College Composition and Communication, and the Carolinas Writing Program Administrators.
