The search for Limestone College’s next President has begun with the formation of a 13-member Presidential Search Committee that will be led by Board of Trustees Vice-Chairman David Riggins.

The committee will conduct a comprehensive national search for the successor to Dr. Walt Griffin, who announced on April 21 that he will retire in December after leading the College for 25 years.

Limestone College’s Department of Music will embark on an eight-day choral concert tour of Germany in May of 2018, and there will be opportunities for friends of the College to travel along.

The trip, being organized by Varna International, will take place May 13-20, 2018, with stops in Berlin, Wittenberg, Leipzig, Erfurt, Eisenach, and Dresden.

Limestone College’s Department of Music will present its annual Spring Choral Concert on Thursday, April 27, at Gaffney’s First Baptist Church.

Admission to the 7:30 p.m. concert by the Limestone College and Community Chorus is free and the public is invited to attend.

Dr. Walt Griffin, who has led Limestone College since 1992, has announced his plans to retire later this year as President at the historic liberal arts institution in Gaffney.

The announcement came at the Board of Trustees meeting on Friday, April 21. Dr. Griffin will continue to serve as Limestone’s President through the end of the 2017 fall semester which concludes with graduation ceremonies December 14-16. Following his retirement, Dr. Griffin will continue to reside in Gaffney.

A production of “Peter and the Starcatcher” will have a three-night run at Limestone College Theatre on April 20-22. Show-time each day is at 7:30 p.m.

Adult tickets are $12 each, while those 65-over and non-Limestone students (with ID) are $10 each. Limestone students, faculty and staff are admitted free. Tickets will be available at the door starting one hour before each performance.

Limestone College Theatre is located at 130 Leadmine Street in Gaffney.

In their final weeks before graduation, three Limestone College students have pedaled forward with a plan for a public bike share program in Gaffney.

Marina Carbonari, Sophie Bosserhoff and Carleigh Davis recently finished a bike share feasibility study as part of a semester internship for a physical education degree requirement. The basic concept is to set up a network of stations around Gaffney at which local residents could rent bicycles for short trips 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Two Limestone College music students will be featured during a Senior Recital concert scheduled for Thursday, April 13, beginning at 7:30 p.m. in Fullerton Auditorium.

Admission to the concert is free and the public is invited to attend.

Miles Hampton will be performing on the trumpet, while Tamra Hughes will be playing the trombone. Both will be accompanied by Dr. David Thompson on piano.

Classes and activities have also been cancelled on April 5, 2017, for Limestone College's Extended Campus locations in Charleston, Columbia, and Florence.

Preserving Georgetown County's rich history may be Virginia Bruorton Skinner's lasting legacy. It was, after all, friends and family say, her lifelong passion.

Skinner died, at age 87, Monday, March 27, at her home, which was, in itself, a treasure trove of Georgetown County history. She relished showing visitors books, scrapbooks and notebooks full of the historical details of Georgetown's people, churches, beaches and more.

Limestone College’s Department of Art is currently presenting Kaitlyn Massey’s Senior Art Show entitled “A Nightmare Before Tea Time.”


The exhibit, which is on display at Limestone’s Granberry Gallery and the A.J. Eastwood Library Conference Room, runs through May 6. A reception, featuring an artist talk by Massey, will be held Thursday, April 13, from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.
