"Blue & White" Spring Football Game Set For Saturday, March 18, at 4 PM

The Limestone College football team’s “Blue & White” spring game will get underway at 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 18, at The Reservation stadium at Gaffney High School.

Admission and parking are free, and the community is encouraged to come out and take a sneak peek at the 2017 edition of the Saints.

Hired as Limestone’s second-ever head football coach in May of last year, Mike Furrey will be on the sidelines for his first spring game with the Saints. A former assistant coach at Marshall University and an eight-year NFL player, Furrey guided Limestone to a 5-6 record in his first season at the helm.

Stadium gates will open Saturday at 3 p.m., and parking in the paved lots immediately around the stadium will open at 1 p.m. The scrimmage was originally scheduled for 7 p.m., but was moved up three hours due to the cold temperatures that are expected Saturday evening.

Except for the lack of live kick returns, the scrimmage will resemble an abbreviated real game as the Saints square off in two 15-minute quarters.

Following the contest, fans are welcome to come onto the field to meet the players and coaches. The majority of Limestone’s Class of 2017 signees are expected to attend the game. Early enrollee transfer players will participate in the scrimmage.

A guest disc jockey will be playing music at the stadium beginning at 3 p.m. Limestone’s merchandise trailer will be on site for those who would like to purchase Saints gear. Chick-Fil-A will be operating one of the concessions stands on the home side of the stadium.

Instead of merely pitting the offense versus the defense, the contest will feature two teams assembled through a “draft” that was conducted by Limestone’s game captains on Tuesday.

The Saints will open the 2017 season on Saturday, Sept. 2, at East Tennessee State University. The complete schedule for the fall will be released soon.
