Assistant Director of the Library and Web Services Librarian Presents at the South Carolina Technical Education Association (SCTEA) Conference

Janet S. Ward, Assistant Director and Web Services Librarian at Limestone College, recently presented “Freshmen Lost on Campus: Meeting First Year Needs in One Package” at the SCTEA Conference in Myrtle Beach, SC. Janet has been employed with Limestone College for over 18 years and has taught freshman courses since 2014.

The presentation covered strategies that Limestone College uses to address the information needs of freshmen and transfer students. The Student Success @Limestone digital portal provides essential support to students in navigating their way through their first year of college and aids in retention efforts. The session covered the creation of comprehensive LibGuides and a how to use library guides as a platform for library instruction for freshmen and transfer students (faculty & staff too), while providing direction to resources, important campus events, and easing the transition to campus for students new to the college.

The South Carolina Technical Education Association is a professional association of technical education personnel and others interested in postsecondary technical education. The purpose of SCTEA is to further the mission of the South Carolina Technical College System and the welfare of its members.
